It was another amazing year for new music. But with every year it’s getting even harder to find these precious needles in the haystack.
We spent 2013 doing our best to solve this problem, believing still that people turn people onto music. With that in mind, we hope everyone takes the time to build an end of the year collection with your 12 favorite Artists.
We can’t believe it’s already time to head into the big holiday rush. We could use a vacation (and a few jazzercise classes) after all of that Thanksgiving eating! Pace yourselves and get some musical motivation. Here’s what everybody was digging last week.
Here’s a Spotify playlist to help you ease into your Holiday Season: TastemakerX V25 “Home Stretch”

With the end of the year drawing close it’s time to start speculating about 2014 festival headliners. Rumor has it Outkast is reuniting for Coachella in April with Arcade Fire, Haim and CHRVCHES joining in on the fun. SXSW has already posted their confirmed line up as well which includes highlights like London Grammar, Poolside, and Avi Buffalo. We already can’t wait for the 2014 Festival Season to start!
Twitter soars in its public debut. #music considers shutting the doors. YouTube hosts an awards show. Things change and quickly. Thankfully there are lots of great bands putting out serious music over the past few weeks to help ground us. We hope you add them to your collections so we can listen and follow you.
After a relentless sea of mainstream movies and music throughout the Summer, this is that time of year when heady films and serious music starts to trickle into the market. Yup, releases are optimized against awards shows, best of lists, and general holiday entertainment spending. As such we had to suffer through many fallow months, but now we’re in the thick of it. Good times are back.
Yup, Fall is here. Leaves are changing, it’s getting dark early, and loads of great music is coming out every week.
In the spirit of tunes literally “in the Bay” check out this homemade Treasure Island Festival playlist: TastemakerX V23 “Treasure Island 2013” and the accompanying TastemakerX Collections: Day 1 and Day 2.
It’s been a dangerously great Fall for live music with the Austin City Limits Festival last weekend (with a repeat this weekend), Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF, and TomorrowWorld in Atlanta. As such all of those bands are doing the club circuits in the weeks before and after so you can get in on the action.
Thanks loads for checking out the new and still beta TastemakerX 2.0! Obviously, like anything new and different, we are still working out the kinks at a feverish pace. Much to do, but we’re getting closer! For now though, it’d be amazing to see everyone curate their first full-length 12 artist collections. In addition to building a great personal feed of news, tour dates, tweets, video and photos, most users are spending a good amount of time listening to other peoples “Collections.” The more artists you have, the better the stations will be to listen to.
This week we have two playlists to share with you all.
TASTEMAKERX DISCOVERIES V.2
The first is comprised of new artists and tracks we discovered. You’ll hear a span of sounds: ambient electronic, hip-hop, indie rock, indie pop, alternative post-grunge, noise rock, synth-pop, folk, pretty much everything! We hope you enjoy it and discover a new genre / artist that you weren’t familiar with before.
I hope you all are well and have had a chance to enjoy live music recently now that we are deep in festival season and as a byproduct, a la carte concerts! If you need a live music fix, check out our YouTube Channel where we’ll be posting live performances + music videos from our favorite artists + bands. Hey, if you can’t be at a show or festival physically, the next best thing to hearing and seeing music in-person, and in its purest form, is video.
